Heading East, the High Route: Quarter Million Mile Club, Boat Show

02 - 05 October 2018

In the morning we left MSP and headed east along I94. We grabbed some brunch in a cute little town called Osseo, south of Eau Claire. Obviously some northern european roots. Across the street they had a little turf roof building.

As we drove through the Wisconsin Dells it seemed like a nice area. While on the I90, just north of Madison, the car entered 250k mile club. So far, so good.

We thought (mistakenly) that by avoiding Milwaukee and the lake we could skirt most of the Chicago traffic mess on our way to Indianapolis. Nope - echh. It was pretty dark by the time we rolled into town. Dinner was at casual neighborhood bar, a converted and frequently modified house on a corner. It was so loud there were bass traps in the ceiling corners!

In the morning we scoped out the suburb of Carmel, which I had seen on some retirement list. It seemed like a very nice area, but nothing really grabbed us. I had intended to stop in Pittsburg, another place I wanted us to check out, but the thought of spending three nights in a row in the same place, even if it was a hotel room, was too appealing. We went straight to the BWI area, which is our staging area for the boat show if we don't make hotel reservations a year in advance.

We hit the US sailboat show for a couple days. It's a great excuse to visit another of our favorite places, Annapolis. Lots of cool toys. Even saw the guy from my handbook meetings who first told me about Green Turtle in the Bahamas.
