Heading East, the High Route: Mt. Rushmore

28 -30 Oct 2018

We wanted to go to the boat show in Annapolis, and try again to get our replacement dinghy delivered to the boat. Getting to Annapolis' latitude (or a little higher) first got us traveling some new country. We left the valley on the 28th and spent the night in Las Vegas at Heather's aunt's after going out for a nice dinner.

In the morning we got a pretty early start (for us) and had a long day. We had lunch in St George UT. There was this creepy spider sculpture thing in the middle of one of the roundabouts. I don't get it.

We escaped from the spider and kept going up I15 to Park City, one of our favorite places. While we had dinner at a funky little pizza place, there was some sort of cocktail party going on across the street.

After dinner we kept going, finally making to the fabulous metropolis of Rock Springs WY for the night.

We hit the road again in the morning, making it all the way to Mt Rushmore. Heather had been as a kid, but not me. There is a dramatic walk to the lookout.

Once at the end of the promenade we reached the lookout, where we saw this.

In an attempt to wait out the fog we had dinner there (which was surprisingly good), but the fog only got worse. So I can say I've been to Mt. Rushmore, but I can't say I've seen Mt. Rushmore. The country around the monument was beautiful, though. We headed down the hill and spent the night in Rapid City SD.
